NMCO Celebrates International Women’s Day

When we’re not doing commercial work, we here at NMCO try to use our creative skills in inspiring, meaningful ways.
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of all women from all walks of life. For this year we thought what better way to show appreciation for the women in our very own community, than with a photo shoot honoring them.

We wanted our photo shoot to aesthetically represent both strength and softness in a dramatic way.
With an emphasis on color, lighting and a beautiful setting (which was graciously provided by Deret from Art Obscura), we arranged our composition to feature these community leaders and entrepreneurs in a powerful light.

We work and collaborate with a lot of talented and driven women, so many that it made it difficult to choose, but for this year’s photo shoot, we managed to narrow it down to 5 groups that we felt embodied our city and the holiday. Each woman chosen represents many.

The Artisans

These businesswomen are taking on the town and the farmers market with their carefully crafted products.  They successfully started their businesses from the ground up and are contributing to a thriving local economy.

Women’s day to me is the celebration of how far we’ve come and how much more there is to accomplish. It’s about our freedom. It’s looking back on generations of women in my family, up to where I am now and being thankful for the independence I’ve been blessed with. It’s about being unapologetically chingona. It’s about my momma and every single woman around me that has helped me grow in to the human I am today.

Lucy Rubio, Co-founder of Noru Boutique

To me, women’s day is a time to celebrate achievements of all women. From the magic of mothers to the empowerment of boss ladies, women are incredible. This photoshoot helped me to realize my own achievements as a woman and celebrate them. It also allowed me to celebrate the incredible boss women I am surrounded by, so thank you!

Sara Beckwith, Owner of Priq Candle Co

Taking photos with fellow badass women who are building their businesses from the ground up was so powerful. I love celebrating women’s day every year cause it is a reminder to the world that we need to continue to empower women everywhere to embrace all that makes us who we are.

Delfina Robles, Owner of Of the Oak

The Promoters

We wanted to highlight the women that make things happen for the city of Las Cruces! These women work tirelessly all year long in organizing festivals and events that bring joy to all.

Celebrating International Women’s Day reminds me that only through lifting up others can we also lift ourselves. Being paired with brilliant women in our community brought me a sense of pride; solidifying the fact that our connections are so very important. Collaborating with other women in this community is paramount to move us all forward. We gain our strength through numbers and have a louder voice to stop inequity, to work towards justice, and celebrate the accomplishments of women worldwide. Women partnering together will change the world, our tenacity and healing strength is unstoppable.

Jennifer Kozlowski, Executive Director of DLCP, an organization responsible for events and economic growth downtown.

This day, to me, means using our voices for those who haven’t found theirs yet, and passing our voices and empowering our next generation.

Lyndsey Kalson, Program Director for Bravo Mic Communications, Chief Strategy Officer for Borderscene Film Festival, and owner of VASTProductionsLK

It is a great honor to be included in a photo shoot of women making a difference in Las Cruces. This city is my adopted home and I’m proud to promote it. I’ve lived here five years and it just keeps getting better! Lyndsey and Jen are great women and role models and it’s a privilege to be working with the both of them on promoting the Las Cruces Space Festival alongside the great women at NMCO Media.

Alice Carruth, Coordinator at the Las Cruces Space Festival, an event that is making space for everyone.

The Empowerers

CAfé is a local organization that aspires to create a culture of support that empowers New Mexicans to strive for a better quality of life. These women dedicate themselves to the people of our state and to helping others.

It is a day where we celebrate women from all countries, regardless of the borders that divide us. I want to celebrate the Latina women and although there are differences between countries we are united by the language and the strong passion for our culture and our traditions. I celebrate the woman who is brave and takes a risk. The traveling woman who crosses rivers and mountains in search of a better tomorrow.

Vivianna Arciniega, Organizer of CAfé

What does International women’s day mean to me and my community?
It is the celebration of the resilience, power, and strength that women carry with them in their everyday lives and existence. As a Mexican American woman, these values are the backbone of all the women in my family. We are the hardworking homemakers, nurses, teachers, mothers, daughters, cousins and aunts. International Women’s Day is a reminder of the strong and resilient women of color that we are and that our existence is valuable to our culture and to our people.

Stevie Paz, Logistics Manager of CAfé

The Communicators

Sinuate media is a local communications and marketing agency located right in Mesilla. This talented group strives to help other businesses have the voice they need.

When women come together and support one other, we have the power to amplify our strengths and power through challenges. International Women’s Day is not only a chance to recognize amazing women in the world but equally important, show young women that there are many paths and mentors available to them as they uncover the barriers they wish to break.

Leah Messina, C.E.O. & Founder

To me, Women’s Day is about sharing appreciation and support with the women in our lives, while celebrating the things that make us all unique and strong.

Isabella Pedicone, Marketing Manager

It is an honor to be featured as part of the “Communicators” category by NMCO, recognizing local women in different industries who are inspirational examples to the community. As a young professional in the business world, things can certainly be challenging, but as a young woman in the business world, the challenge can be even greater. The campaign this year for International Women’s Day is “#BalanceforBetter,” and what better way to represent that than to feature a balance between women, from different cultures and backgrounds working in the professional world? I think that is pretty awesome.

Anabelle Chozet, Account Executive

Women’s Day is a reminder that we should not take for granted the lifestyle and opportunities that we have as women in the modern day. It took the effort and sacrifice of previous generations to get us here, and it is our responsibility to continue working for equality for the generations to come.

Anais Gomez, Graphic Designer

It was an honor to be part of the NMCO Women’s Day photo shoot. The future is female, and I’m proud to be a part of that future.

Lauren Buckingham, Social Media Intern
