Let there be color!
From pre-historic cave paintings to ancient Egypt, medieval Europe, the Renaissance, and to the modern age line and color have always been an outlet for stress release and expression. With advancements like chromolithography and the printing press advertising starts expanding in the 17th century. The first design agency later debuts in 1903 in Austria known as Wiener Werkstätte paving the way for mediums we know today such as publishing, branding, layout and graphic design to grow and develop as industries.
In graphic design, web design, and film, color is one of the most important elements. Whether it’s used aesthetically to create mood, strategically for a brand or to differentiate a drop-down web menu; color is one of the designer’s most cherished tools.
As we approach the third millennium with more technology, the realm of color is no longer merely primary: the hues, tones, saturation, and vibrancy have expanded. Mediums like colored pencils, paint and pastels sold en masse have adapted to including incredible color variation. Color and coloring books are vastly commercially accessible for children and now adults too.
